Well, obviously, it's a grasshopper and a flashlight.

Bring It On, Bugs. She's Ready!
Since she was little, Sophie has always been fascinated with exterminators. She calls our current Orkin service technician "The Bug Guy" and spends the whole time he's here following him around, watching him search for unwelcome critters in the nooks and crannies of our house. He visited today while she was in school, and when she found out, she was distraught. "You mean I miiiiiiiisssssed The Buuuuuuuuugggg Guuuuuuuy?!" She made me promise to see if next time he could come on a day when she would be here, and then she promptly went to work in the study, taping...cutting...making her very own "pest" and hunting tool.

hmmm?
An Arkies Musings
It looked more like a bullfrog and a flashlight to me.
Faf
THAT'S the part you notice, Fafa? The grasshopper??
A flashlight! CLEARLY. I really love the grasshopper. It's so elaborate!
Thanks for the laugh – best part of my day so far.
Brad
Oh dear! That's hilarious. Obviously a flashlight. Obviously. : )

Oh my gracious!!! How is it that children have a knack for making all things phallic? Or is it just that we're pervs and see things like that wherever we look? Who knows....
Jen
Okay, Jen, that made me laugh out loud! Something to ponder. :-)
It's a mutinus elegans!!!!!!!
:-)
Sarah
Wow! That flashlight is x-rated!
Jessie
Oh, Jessie. Are you sure you don't just have your mind in the gutter? ;-)
Pretty sure my mind stays in the gutter, but you have to admit that's a well-hung flashlight.
Jessie
Wow. Particularly interesting as I'd originall thought it read that she called him "The Big Guy".

I'd love to post this on my guild website but Joanna says it's not appropriate!

oh. my. goodness. Has Suzanne seen this yet? Maybe she can use Sophie's artwork as a pattern for pottery. I'm sure it would sell like crazy in certain parts of the country....San Francisco, maybe?

Aimee, Oh, my. ((snort!))
No, Julie...she hasn't seen it yet. You know Mom - she'll react in one of two ways: either she'll be HORRIFIED, or she'll just see a flashlight. I can actually hear her saying, "What? What's everybody laughing at?" She'd kill me if she knew I was telling this story on here, but we watched "Parenthood" together (not too long ago). When it came to the "electric ear cleaner" scene, she said, "Rewind that." I rewound. She got up and stood closer to the TV, squinting, "Remind that again." Three rewindings later and she said, "What IS that thing? ...A flashlight? True story. I love mom. :-)
wow. What amazes me is how that flashlight looks like it could fit right into that bug. . . huh. . .
When we asked her how she made the flashlight, she said the bugs legs looked like a flashlight...but that she made the handle "big, like our black flashlight". Who knew this is where tracing would take her.
